a new minor release is out, with only bugfixes. Not much to add, except sorry for those who met the following bugs :p

Awesome, this program but i have still a problem when i'm watching "You Tube" movies. The audio runs 10 times faster then the video. At least the movie is freezing. Is it a setting maybe? This problem was also in earlier versions.
Great! I was having this "stoping after some minutes" problem, but I just thinked it was my computer or my network :)
Just to note: here, running Ubuntu 8, the PS3MS crached at all after some minutes, with a lot of videos, but just sometimes.

The pause still happens to me when I have "remux when audio track is AC3" checked. If I uncheck it then everything works fine.

Awesome app. I still have some work to do across my network, as the playback of 720p video's still have buffer issues. But this is amazingly easy to set up and use. My total appreciation for your work in developing this.
@Mike Youngstrom: there's still a few people experiencing this: that should be fixed for good in next revision
there's a problem with this new update it wont work on my macbook with osx leopard. So I went back to 1.10
There is a problem using the server as a windows service in Windows Vista 32. A workaround is going to Control Panel -> Administratise Tools -> Services and restart the PS3 Media Server Service.
This bug is not happening when the program is not running as a service. At least there should be an option to revert to normal if you encounter some problems..

Would it be possible for PS3 Media Server to automatically detect AVI files that use a codec which is not supported by the PS3 and automatically transcode it? I find that I have to use the special TRANSCODED subdirectory a lot to make videos play. Most of my collection is downloaded anime.
Program works great, love it!!! Altho, when watching a movie, an network error message comes up on the top right corner on the ps3. Movie plays fine but it keeps flashing the error message one and off...

the only issue that i seem to be having is, when i try to navigate to my film clips folder (music video's) it crashes. that folder has ~2000 videos in it. i have turned off thumbnail generation in the hope that it might be a fix but no luck. if you could please look into that, that would be great :)... eg. donation worthy ;)

This program is just awesome. I tried getting tversity working for hours especially with mkv and subtitles which are commonly used in animes but no luck. Now with ps3 server it works out of the box. Thank you so much.

I just want to say that is is the raddest program i have found. I will donate for this one. I had a linux box running Mediatomb but it was such a pain to manage. I wanted my mac to hosue everthing now to take advantage of wireless N so I installed mediatomb via fink. and then i found your wonderful. sweet, sumptuous little program. Screw you mediatomb. Sometimes when streaming a file, the video bitrate listed on the PS3 jumps up to 40Mbit+, even when I have the Maximum Bandwidth set to 25Mbit in Video Quality Settings. This causes the video to slow and eventually stop. Has happened with XVID Avi files and MKV files.
I tried choosing to "Copy" one file instead of playing it, and it copied 700 megabytes to the PS3 before I cancelled it. The original file is 237 megabytes.
Presumably some problem with MEncoder settings? It's using a very high bitrate for the transcoded video?

Really great program. I have tried every media server application on the market and this one comes out ops in every way.
I only have one problem and that is streaming WMV files with 5.1 audio. It plays fine for a few minutes and then the A/V sync goes out of wack. after a few mins it tries to catch up and then the picture stutters.
I have a quad core processor, 4GB ram on a 1GB switch so my bottleneck is not my PC or network.
Any ideas? I am not overly concerned as my WMV collection is not large at all, but this would just make the server 100% :)

I have tried to use the application on Windows 7 but that did not work.
If I change the PMS.bat so that the pms.jar has an absolute path then it will at least start the pms.jar but unfortunately it always fails to detect the PS3 in the network although I can see from the logs that the correct IP adapter and settings are used.
Trying to start the PMS.exe I will always just get "Could not create Java virtual maschine".
I have a Windows 7 x86 Build 7057 with 4gig.

I copy and paste a post I made in the PS3 forum with a list of issues I have with your media server:
- Web TV: I have only one channel working. The French one in English. But I have to do it from the #TRANSCODED# folder.
- Gametrailers works only using the web streaming in the transcoded folder.
- No chance to see any single youtube video
- Web radio works.
- Podcast works
- When using .srt subtitles it transcode Divx videos in MPEG2. Is that normal?
- When it transcodes a video I can't jump to a specific time of the video without having (it seems) all the video transcoded and streamed up to that point. Which means it's nearly unusable.
- mencoder keeps crashing (I get a message window in OSX), but the program keeps working even ignoring the message.
- I keep getting all kind of network errors but the videos keep streaming
I may assure you that my OSX/PS3 configuration is just good. Thanks. Good job anyway!

not true, the jump in time feature is pretty much immediate... but again, the forum is the best place for help :p

Sometimes the PS3 Media Server can't begin to stream/transcode and the message "Not supported" on PS3 comes up.
When this happens many of the "Shared folders" are removed automatically and I have to add them again.

Exactly what I've been waiting for! Simply the best for running on linux. Used Mediatomb and fought with Fuppes. This is way simpler.

I also must say thanks for this little bit of software. So far it has been working great with just a couple of little niggles, that i just needed to adjust settings for.
I came across it searching for a way to "Playback" DVD ISO's that i have created to back up my collection and Voila, here i am. Again thanks for the great effort.
amazing piece of software, stable and with a logical interface.
i'd only wish it would support wider subtitle formats such as smi.
other than that, this was an amazing find that let's me enjoy my audio and video hardware like i had never before.

I just wanted to say thank you for this excellent piece of software. After using it for about a week I'm thoroughly impressed by it. ISOs? No problem. Mkv? Sure, go right ahead. Finally I can use my PS3 as an actual media player. Thanks!

This version is *much* slower than 1.4, and I have no clue why. I'm trying to watch an avi file which plays just fine on the PS3 (verified by copying it and playing the copy), but for some reason PS3 Media Server is running ffmpeg on my PC, which means I guess it's transcoding it. The audio goes badly out of sync and my CPU here all but locks up, making it impossible to do anything on the PC while streaming a movie to the PS3. This wasn't the case with 1.4. Anything I can do about this?
This is a great program. I switched from Tversity this afternoon. One thing that could possibly enhance the experience could be the caching of movie thumbnails. Is this possible?
I used PMS for a long time on ubuntu desktop, but now i want to get it working on ubuntu server without GUI

What an amazing program, I was a fervent user of TVersity before discovering PS3 Media Server. I have experienced a lot of troubles with TVersity under Vista x64 but now everything is gone with PMS. I love the Full HD encoding feature through MEncoder with the DTS track enabled ;-)

Is there any way to hide the #--TRANSCODE--# folder?
When I want to copy a group of files to my PS3, if I copy a folder it also includes the Transcode sub-directory.
Other than that this media server does everything I want it to!

I'm running on 64-bit edition of Windows 7 beta. Not that this is necessarily needed -- but would a 64-bit compiled version improve transcoding performance? Just curious.

I might be thick... but is it possible to attach labels to shared folders? For example I have 3 hard disks with a directory named "videos". I'd like to be able to label them so I know which is which.

Great work, i have a tip that worked for me when videos stop after a few minutes (it worked with the last version atleast) i simply turned "task offload" off in network adapter settings and it stopped stopping, atleast for me. super app!

Awesome App! This solved many of my compatible video problem with WMP media server. I had buffer issues but i believe that is due to my network which i upgraded and havent seen any issues since then.

Doesn't work.
Plays fine for a while, then starts pausing, lagging, crashing...with a network error 807 something all over the place.
Well, I'll have to keep using it for lack of an alternative...
Installed as a service it cannot find PS3, but when launched manually it works fine.
Hi, i tried installing few days ago. The connection is fine. The video playback is fine.
But i have problems listening to MP3 and also viewing jpg photos.
How can i resolve this?
