v1.03

Hello there

Some fresh news from the development front, as there's a new version out there! Two interesting things: First, Windows users who owns multicores processors will be pleased to know that, this version includes a custom build of mencoder optimized for multicores and H264 content, based on the great work of the ffmpeg team. Benefits ? recent CPUs are now fully used, rather than the usual 60, 65% usage with the default mencoder build (that means a 30% performance gain on mine for example), so you can almost ditch your CoreAVC / AviSynth installs... Be careful though, this is somewhat very young, so you can disable it if any problems arise...

The another thing is that, we have a new forum :) You can join here... feel free to participate !

PS3 Media Server v1.03 for Windows/Linux/OSX

Settings reorganization
M4V now streamed by default, you have to enter the #Transcoded# folder to force the transcode (like AVI files)

"Fixed console mode on Linux"

How do you get to the console mode (assuming you mean a GUI-less mode)?

Bitdefender sees your "pms-setup-win32-1.03.exe" as a Trojan.Generic.1328988. Proberly no virus in it, but wanted to let you know!

Very cool. A little bug report.. an invalid path in the shared paths prevents the Path editor dialog from coming up (so cant fix the path without editing the conf file.)

Merci encore pour ce logiciel fabuleux

My virus software went off when I tried to download this as well, going to wait to see what's done about that before I get this...

I don't care about false positives, so it's up to you to trust the application or not

It seems like the setting maximum brandwith in Mbit, does not have any effect, and therefore does not work.

No matter what I put the limit at, the video still often peak way beyond what my wifi connection can stream. With the result that the video is stuttering.

Is this something you are aware of??

Other then that, nice work.

I just wanted to say thank you. At first I couldn't getting it working on Linux, but it was entirely my fault. I didn't set the application to "run". I felt really stupid and now everything runs smoothly.

I don't know what it is, but a movie that I have wouldn't play on my windows version of the program at all, it came up as corrupt. But it runs fine in the linux version. I even used coreavc and it wouldn't run in windows.

Maybe it's the windows version of mencoder? Either way I'm happy to have this program. Thanks again!

I just want to say thank you! Your application is awesome! I just installed it and without changing anything, I can finally watch my Xvid files! Thank you!

Thank you for this awesome software!

This has completely opened up my PS3 experience. No more converting MKV files to play on my PS3.

Can you possibly add SMI file for the subtitle? most of my subtitles are in SMI file insteal of SRT or SUB...

Jaqb a dit…

Cant u just rename SMI to SRT ? If Mplayer supports smi it should work....

PS3 Media Server a dit…

mplayer supports them, so the rename should work... anyway I will add smi detection

Amazing! I've only used it once but I think I've already found a replacement for TVersity. IMO, TVersity was too big and slow. This program is fast.

I'm going to look into finding the setting for best resolution of HD videos.

Thank you so much!

you are the best :)

ps3mediaserver it's the best, very easy and works fine...

do you think make a command line version for servers without X?

Utku a dit…

This is amazing, I feel incredibily better without Tversity -the most annoying app ever I've installed-. You guys done it right. Every thins including transcoding over wireless works perfectly.

Carl a dit…

It does not seem to save any settings after I exit the program. I click Save but next time I load the program everything is back to default (shared folders, etc.). Any help?

Daniel a dit…

truly simple and amazing stuff

This is fantastic. Mainly using it to throw Video and music (flac) into any room in the house where my psp 2000 is plugged in (TV, HiFi).... Tried all the other dlna software this without doubt the best solution for a (linux)PC -> PS3 -> PSP setup

Thankyou

With TsMuxer and subtitles srt appears subtitles found but they are not seen.

Where is the problem?

kerol a dit…

Thanks a lot for this great program.Way better that Tversity. No need to convert anything. Even has subtitle option, which I need it sometimes.

Just to note you a couple of problems that I had.

1.This program seems not fond with Sunbelt Personal Firewall. When I have the PMS install with the same PC which I install the firewall, I'll be getting error - data is corrupt.

Disabling or exiting the firewall did not solve the problem.
Uninstalling it, solve it.
Now, I'm using free Zonealarm firewall.

2.Some mkv files stutter during playback. I paused it, then only can play it smooth. Maybe, it's related to network problem.

Thanks again.
Good luck in whatever thing you do.

Ever wondered why no other media server like Tversity etc. ships with all transcoders and filters included? Though I'm not connected to any official institution just be aware that Mencoder, FFMPEG, etc. are not legally to redistribute as binaries within the United States due to copyright infringement. Patent costs of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding are somewhere between one and four USD, Dolby Digital 5.1 de/encoding is even more expensive and is allowed only if certified by Dolby Labs. There are a lot of pitfalls when dealing with those patents which makes legal software development a pain in the neck - and expensive.

I strongly recommend to remove *all* encoder binaries from your redistributable. Do it as others do: Allow your users to download the transcoder engines separately from another side (not connected to yours).

Side note: Distribution of the source code of Mencoder, FFMPEG, etc. is not illegal due to whatever reasons - Just distribution of the compiled binaries violates the patent laws of United States and other countries.

Otherwise thumbs up for this media server. Works great!

I really admire this, I mean it reallllly looks interesting! I'm actually glad to see all this stuff, to see that this world offers creativity and ideas other than what my lonesome small town provides. This world is quite the big place and to encounter a story such as this one just puts me out of my ordinary. I gotta hand it to whoever wrote this, you've really kept me updated! Now, let's just hope that I can come across another blog just as interesting :)
