a quick message to inform you there's a serious bug in 1.02 which prevents the application from running, affecting a significant number of users...
so here's the 1.02.1:
PS3 Media Server 1.02.1 for Windows/Linux/OSX
If you have no troubles with 1.02, you can skip it, as this one has very few fixes, aside this major bug:

Major Bug in server start due to a faulty MAC address retrieval
PMS do not start after activating the archive browsing option
Media library small fixes
Good news is there's an OSX version working in Java1.5. It should be able to run with more macs !

I am running PS3.exe on WHS with no real problems. PS3.exe is a simple yet excellent piece of software and runs circles round many of the big players. I am having no trouble streaming HD data sets in excess of 100Mb/sec. Also the flexibility of the codec interfaces is exemplery. I only have one minor issue in that the 'service' instance is not being recognised by the PS3. If I load PS3.exe as a service using 'anyserviceinstaller.exe' then it runs OK.
The best application for ps3!! Keep up the great work!

I have a suggestion...
Create a new tab which allows people to modify the radio stations and web casts.
I've worked out that I can change the WEB.conf file to WEB.txt and can add new stations, but I figure it could be something that could be added into the program itself.

Great program, seriously, but I'm having some recently problems that are preventing me from using it.
I recently installed Sunbelt Personal Firewall (I used to use this firewall but for some reasons when I first tried PS3 Media Server I didn't have it installed, now I'm back with it) and noticed that a lot of files I could watch before, now I get "Damage Data" messages when trying to play them with MEncoder, AviSynth/MEncoder or TSMuxer. With AviSynth/FFmpeg they work, though.
It happens with the firewall enabled or disabled or even its
NDIS IM Filter Driver enabled or not. Whenever the firewall is installed running or not, I cannot transcode using MEncoder or TSMuxer.
I Hope this can be resolved, I really like both programs.

I just want to say how great this mediaserver is. I've been using Tversity for a few months now, but getting it set up to transcode certain folders and its flaky mkv support was all a pain in the arse. Combined with the fact it usually took the PS3 a good 20 mins of sitting on the XMB to pick it up.
This is instantly there, easy to use and massively compatible. To quote my girlfriend, who isn't a master of the technologique "Wow, this ones much better than the other one. It just works!"

It looks like a nice piece of software, however it is stuttering when transcoding subtitled files in Windows Vista, while Tversity does not have that problem with the exact same file. I've tried reducing the bandwidth but it didn't help. Are there any other settings that can be altered to help with the stuttering, as my computer/connection is capable of transcoding it without stuttering using tversity?
I would like to suggest a feature. Can you have Hulu stream through your media center like PlayOn Media Server?

I've installed this program but everytime I try to launch it a receive this error "Unable to create Java Virtual Machine". I have Java 6 update 11 installed and running on Windows XPsp2.

I don't know why, but I can't run the file (Windows version). I click on the icon and nothing happens. The file doesn't even show up in the process explorer.

The new version with the installer is nice. I am trying to see how to make sure that English audio and subtitles. I set English as the language. Are there other settings?
When I installed v1.02.1, I just installed it without removing v0.99. Is that OK? Because now the ffdshow seems to be disabled... Do I need to point to its location? Audio streaming from the iTunes Music folder does not work. The files within the subfolders are not recognized.... Any ideas?

@Elim: launch a DOS command window in the application directory and try the following command line:
javaw -Xmx768M -jar pms.jar net.pms.PMS
@Coarse: Linux install is not as smooth as Windows, especially if you want to use CoreAvc, which is not available

WMV-HD (720p, 5.1 wma pro)+ sub (.srt)
-MEncoder, sub is out of sync
-AviSynth/MEncoder, sub in sync but crappy audio (central channel)
-AviSynth/Ffmpeg, sub in sync, good audio but right channel and central one are inverted.
Please fix AviSynth/FFmpeg as can handle high bitrates better than MEnconder

This makes me think that I have Java and PS3MS installed in D drive instead of C. Cuuld this be a problem?
Working very well under Windows 7 build 7000 x64. I had been using TVersity and stumbled upon this when I couldn't get that working. Great program.

Seems like I was doing everything right but there's maybe a problem with the web streams as france 24 etc don't work either.
Is it possible to make this program work via ad hoc not using the same network on the PC and PS3?

Brilliant program just switched from Tversity.
I have one problem when playing mkv files with tsmuxer it doesn't play the last 5 seconds or so of the files which would be fine on films as would be credits but on TV eps you sometimes miss a few lines ie tv Scrubs this week.
Is this affecting anyone else?

I am running ps3mediaserver on my Linux machine which is nicely hidden. It acts as a disk server. I have noticed that every time I restart PS3 it looses sight of Media Server. I need to restart media server so that PS3 will see it again.
Is there some fix for this?
Would be nice if you could add an option to shutdown or sleep the pc from the ps3 interface. Just like you now already can switch some options.

J'ai un bug sur un MP4, le film va trop vite, puis s'arrête et bug. Sous le PC,j'ai une erreur de mencoder. J'ai essayé via tous les transcoding possibles mais cela ne marche toujours pas.
J'utilise le logiciel depuis plusieurs semaines et c'est la première fois que j'ai ça. Il s'agit du film Bubba Ho Tep en VO. Sur le PC tout marche très bien. mais pas via le log.
I am having some issues with playback of just about any movie I stream from my PC. The info screen shows that the PS3 is pulling in data from anywhere between 500k to 2.5MB/sec and running at 135k or so, so theres plenty of buffered video. Yet, every 10 minutes or so I will get stuttering video for a few seconds like its trying to catch up.

I closed the program, went to
services.msc
Started the Ps3 server and made it automatic.
Once this happens, i opened the program again and it did not find the PS3.
i just stopped the service and it worked.

Still desperately trying to make PS3MS work.
This time I launched Wrapper.exe manually. It did not work, as expected.
The log starts with the following, repeated 5 times:

Then the last message is:

There were 5 failed launches in a row, each lasting less than 300 seconds. Giving up.

Reading the log, I understood there was something wrong about memory usage. So I just edited conf file.
I lowered this value:
# Maximum Java Heap Size (in MB)
wrapper.java.maxmemory=768
like this:
# Maximum Java Heap Size (in MB)
wrapper.java.maxmemory=640
And now service starts. I don't know why this happens, anyway, since I have 2GB RAM.
Just a question: could this "fix" cause any problem in the usage? Thank you!

The fix works only if I manually launch wrapper.exe.
If I click on "PS3 Media server" shortcut on desktop, on start menu or on the actual program in the directory I keep receiving the usual "Cannot create Java Virtual Machine" error.

When you're not able to find your PS3, run it as administrator (in vista/xp)
Just a tip for people running this awesome app on Vista-machines and struggle with stuttering video even when you have a wired connection. Try the following from a command prompt:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Before I did this my peak rate (from PMS) was about 8000 kb/s - now it's at around 70000 kb/s (highest settings)...

Great work! In my windows system (Vaio) this is working fine. In my imac, though, it doesn't detect the ps3. I'm using version 1.03.
