Hi everyone,
Sunday has arrived and the new version as well! I have hopefully fixed many bugs with network / transcoder / video compatibility and added as well the DVD ISO/VIDEO_TS transcoder, thanks to Mencoder. As some of you kindly suggested me, and also as I stopped counting my hours on this project :), I've added a donation link on the right side of this blog.
Also, the next version (1.00) will be most likely focused on bugs fixing / usability (something like auto-update, with saved parameters), so if anything goes wrong with this one, just drop an email to ps3mediaserver at gmail.com with detailed infos on what isn't working, joined with the debug file if possible.

thank you
I am deciding if I should buy a ps3...your project is giving me hope, thank you and keep up the good work.
I couldn't get subtitles to work with Tversity, no matter what I tried... but your program made everything possible! It's so easier, and it's transcoding some things even better! Still some issues, but it's a great project. Hope you keep updating and this app become as famous as Tversity!
Thanks! I think it is working. I have some audio sync troubles though. I am wondering about the transcoding options. I set MEncoder Only to disabled and put txMuxer on top. It seems to say MEncoder in the -transcoded- folder. Is that right?
Thanks again!
Fantastic software...thanks alot
Bravo.
Hi there everyone,
great program. Well done, much better than TVersity!! my question is this, i live in israel and want to play subs in unicode, but every sub in hebrew plays incorrectly (the characters look like gibberish). My question is this, is there any way to play subs or srt which aren't in english?
Just a question, but would it be possible to GPGPU accelerate the transcoding of the software?
I'm wondering because right now both nVidia and Ati are insisting a lot on these functions, Stream is just about to be released, so I'm sure it can be done.
Now how that's done, no idea :)
Absolutely great. Amasing program, with perfect HD streaming capabilities...
Wish i'd found it earlier, so i wouldnt have to struggle for HOURS to get Tversity to stream MKVs...
Thank you.
@duartejoe: tsMuxer isn't really "out of sync proof" :p ... also I think it's better you leave Mencoder enabled, it's pretty useful with videos tsMuxer cannot remux
@michkele: there's a limited hebrew support for now: in the "mencoder player" tab, set "ISO-8859-8" as your subtitles codepage.
There will be better support with future versions, I hope.
@mbennis: il y a déja un début de FAQ :p
@Michel: honestly no idea about it. Maybe this is easily feasible but I really don't know
Thank you Mr. Media! I'll re-enable MEncoder.
Just so I understand, the position of the transcoder in the box is the hierarchy of use? Or does the program use the first one that works?
I'm still trying to get this.
Also, I streamed from the server to the PS3 for about 3 hours last night and my PS3 got pretty hot, and the fan was raging. Any thoughts?
Thank you! Tversity has been a headache for me and hardly ever works right. I love how PS3 Media Server keeps my file and folder structure intact! I've got 720p transcoding/streaming beautifully, but I can't seem to get 1080p content to stream without stuttering. I'm running WinXP with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ (2.91Ghz) I'm still playing around with settings and hopefully I'll figure it out. Any advice in addition to what's in the Readme/FAQ?
Thank you so much for developing this! It's awesome!
@edrabbit: My guess is that your computer is too slow to handle real-time 1080p transcoding.
@PS3 Media Server: Thank you for this wonderful program! I too am a frustrated TVersity user and I can't believe how simple the streaming process is with this program.
However, I did run into a problem going from 0.98 to 0.99. The soft subs in MKV files don't seem to be using embedded font anymore, so they end up looking like this:
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/2098/12082008072do4.jpg
Whereas in 0.98 they looked correct:
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/2098/12082008072do4.jpg
The font also appears to be stretched. I'm using the CCCP codec pack and I have Enable ASS/SSA subtitles checked. If it's unchecked, then the text has no styling at all. When it is checked, only the font face seems to be messed up, the colors are still correct.
I actually got a 1080p MKV streaming when "transcoding" through TsMuxer. Video look awesome, no stuttering at all. But there's no audio. I'm assuming that's because this is a DTS file? I get audio when transcoding with mencoder.
@Daniel: actually I just changed the font used in Mplayer package (subfont.ttf). The program does not use embedded fonts yet, as there's bugs about this in Mplayer since several months (waiting for a stable release to re-enable it)
Is it possible to add an option that pressing 1 2 etc skips to 10% 20% etc of a song or movie?
hello again Mr. Media
i was able to enable Hebrew subtitles using your instructions
and they work great!
but still have the same problems with video stuttering when 720p transcoding..
i tried using lowest settings
keyint=5:vqscale=3:vqmin=5
and bandwidth limit of 6-25
my wifi reception was 90% at ps3.
video played pretty well but my pc/wifi connection couldn't handle some parts of the movie which made it unwatchable.
thanks again for all yor help
ill stay tuned for any future releases thats for sure!
Thanks a lot for this program. I no longer have to spend time with mkv2vob and such to watch something on my ps3.
I'm just wondering if someone found the right af parameters of LPCM DTS, because at the moment, the default parameters as well as the ones specified in the readme are wrong (the channels seems to be messed up while they work fine with mplayer on the PS3). I can't find the right ones.
Thanks a lot for the program.
It's the best media server.
Would be posible transcoding using AVC or MPEG4 instead mpeg2?
This way, the bandwith could be minor.
Best regards
Great software, really enjoy it!!
Do have a question tho is there a way to set it for language, no subs, and if that language is not available, then language, subs?
for example, in haali media splitter you can do:
eng,off;*,eng
so if english audio is available - english audio is played, subs won't be displayed. Otherwise, any other audio played, english subtitles displayed?
@Axionkt: also interested in this :p
@Tony Doval: feasible, but you better buy the last quad core from Intel for real time encoding :)
@Tony: yup, I'm also bothered with that, and haven't found the solution yet :\
Thanks so much - this software is amazing. I was very frustrated with TVersity and this has made everything so easy.
Mr, I found your link from Tversity forum, and I tried to download version 0.99 from the posted links but looks like those links are banned by my location.
I'd really like to switch to your fantastic software, would you send win32-0.99 version to my email Kain.Yang@yahoo.com? thanks a lot!
This is quite excellent.. Thank you.
This is an awesome program. Although it has some usability that is far beyond what tversity is capable of, I wish it was able to detect and transcode incompatible file types without manual intervention - However, the program is very unobtrusive, and has made it a pleasure to watch my collection.
Thank you!
@ Richard
The auto-detection would indeed be a nice feature to have in a future version. Or maybe in the meanwhile a simple option to set transcoding to always on. That why you don't need to manual select a transcoding method for incompatible files.
@Fredd-E:
95 percent of my media is compatible with the Ps3 as it goes, so I don't know if "Transcode Always" is exactly the way to go. At least if it were an option available from the ps3.. Like... #Select this folder to transcode files/#Select this folder to turn off auto-transcode. I would hate to lose that degree of control.
This program is excellent, though, and I look forward to whatever updates will come.
Oh: I had another feature idea. From what I understand, the presence of a pic1.png in the folder is what causes the background to change to a splashscreen. I can test tonight, but would it be possible to write a program that would pull metadata from IMDB and turn it into ths pic1.png file? I will do some research on my end for feasibility, and i'll email you whatever I find when I have a chance to.
Hey do you think you can make a forum for this project so more people can communicate their problems and answers? It would be great if you could. I am loving the project by the way.
The creator listens and replies to a couple of thread at these places:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1085772
http://www.avforums.com/forums/ps3-media-streaming/854635-new-media-server-ps3.html
Any possibiliy of making it run as a service so a user wouldn't have to be logged in all of the time?
everything works for me except one annoying issue, i installed mencoder codec package and media sever is able to support rm/rmvb encoded videos. but rm/rmvb files audio and video were out of sync(there was 2sec or more letency and kept increasing).
I tried mencoder option '-mc 0' '-vf harddup' '-fps 27' -'ni' and also '-nobps', none of them seemed working for me.
would you add rm/rmvb support(av sync problem) in next version?
Well everything works perfectly well except for 2 things:
First, when i play an mkv that has subtitles embedded in the container, the program prioritizes them and ignores any srt files.
Secondly, when i play mostly hd content, the ps3 tends to zoom into the picture so as to fill the screen (fullscreen). This means any subtitles appear in half, meaning that the zoom causes only the upper line of the subtitles to be visible. Ive checked the ps3 display setting and it is set to "normal". If i set it to "Original" Subtitles are visible but that means i have to watch the movie in a box XD.
I hope you understand what i mean, i will be happy to provide screentshots if you find it more helpful.
Thanx again for the great program.
@Jason: yep, it's in the TODO
@Kain: haven't really tried rmvb, will take a look later
@Steeve: try increasing the value of "sub margin" ("transcoding->mencoder player") to 10, or more, this should move up the subtitles
I can provide you a forum if you would like. I would like to do this in place of a donation since I am still out of work and would love to help out in any way I can.
Bonjour

Well done on this wonderful piece of software. I bought a PS3 a year and a half ago, and then i bought a 40ich full HD lcd screen. I've always had to compromise on the quality of the movies using TVERSITY, but since i downloaded this nifty app, i've been watching 1080p DTS movies. I must say as a C# programmer, i appreciate te simplicity of the user interface, having programmed allot of crap out there for ignorant clients (still am unfortuantely), i must say to the developpers of this code, Spot on brother. Great code. This proram proved to my wife why i bought the PS3 :)
P.S. I used what ' PS3 Media Server' advised for the hebrew sub support and it works like a charm, great work and thanks again
Hello, I have an overscan problem on the top and bottom of the display.
I'd like to know what I have to do to add a black border at the bottom and the top of the video to resolve this problem.
(My tv don't have a 1:1 mode and the "display change" with the triangle menu doesn't resolve anything)
